Final Cut Studio: About external video-monitoring conflicts: "Some of the applications included with Final Cut Studio are able to display output to an external video device. Viewing such output on a precisely calibrated monitor is the best way to accurately evaluate color and framing of material that is intended to be viewed on a television. Apple Qualified video interfaces are evaluated with each of the Final Cut Studio applications that can access them for output. Other applications, such as iMovie HD and Final Cut Express also allow external video monitoring."

Well, in general, you don't really need to concern yourself with it simply because DVD Studio Pro itself does a decent job of allocating elements automatically. However, there are two cases in which DVD Studio Pro's VTS editor can come in handy. In the first place, it allows you to spread your menus over multiple video title sets, which, in effect, eliminates the 1 GB menu barrier that previous versions of DVD Studio Pro had. For example, if you're viewing a track from a chapter menu, you want people to be able to go back to the chapter menu by hitting the Menu button. But if the viewer accessed the track from the main menu, you want the viewer to go back to the main menu instead

Gamma handling is different in Shake and Final Cut Pro

Gamma handling is different in Shake and Final Cut Pro:
Shake makes no automatic changes to the gamma of QuickTime or RGB image files and sequences. Users must make sure that their monitor is properly calibrated for their production environment, and that the ViewerLookup parameters are set to the values required for images to display properly in the Shake Viewer. In particular, the default viewerGamma value is 1, which leaves the gamma of images displayed in the Viewer unchanged.

Final Cut Pro, on the other hand, makes some assumptions about the gamma of QuickTime and RGB image files that are imported into a project. The gamma of imported QuickTime and RBG image files is treated differently in sequences set to render in 8-bit or 10-bit YUV.

Tip:  While it is possible to recalibrate Apple displays via the Display Calibrator Assistant in Displays preferences, users should leave the gamma of their monitors to the 1.8 Standard Gamma setting when working in Final Cut Pro. ColorSync settings are not used by either Shake or Final Cut Pro for automatic color calibration or compensation of any kind.
