Mac Pro/NVidia 8800 GT: poor performance, graphics glitches - MacFixIt

Curious behavior from this card. It's around $300 and has 512 MB ram.

Poor performance As noted in a posting by Bare Feats, the Mac Pro's stock Radeon HD 2600 XT beats the GeForce 8800 GT in a number of pro appliction benchmarks. The publishers say: "We're puzzled by this when you consider it has twice the VRAM and a faster core. Could the Radeon's architecture be more optimized for Core Image effects?"

Motion Smarts: Downloads

A break from looking through the stuff on the proapps (P.S. DID YOU FIND SOMETHING AMAZINGLY COOL IN THE PROAPPS?  email me.)

Annoying motion (1+2, and maybe 3) problem.  If you have assets for a project that you made the mistake of importing from all over the place - there's no easy way to pull them all together.  Motion knows where they are.  We know we have the ability to read the XML.  Just no way to 'collect' them.

CHV Morphing FX - Video

CHV Morphing FX - Video: "The new way to morph video and images directly with Motion 2. Morphing FX takes full advantage of Final Cut Studio%u2019s new FxPlug plugin interface making it possible to morph and deform video faster and way more convenient than ever. CHV%u2019s FxPlug plug-ins are also universal binaries, which makes them run on both Intel-based and PPC-based Apple Macintosh computers. "

Graphics Cards for Final Cut Pro and Motion

From Ken Stone:

Graphics Cards for Final Cut Pro and Motion

Conclusion

Most editors will be perfectly suited with the NVIDIA 7300 GT. It is a fast high quality graphics card that suits the needs of the average video editor. The ATI Radeon X1900 XT is faster then the 7300 GT and makes the workflow with advanced 3D much more efficient. Note: A faster and more expensive graphics card is not going to give Final Cut Pro and Motion users any additional functions or features. The 'only' visible difference lies in the speed. But as everybody knows that time is money, a faster graphics card would definitely be a good investment.

With the upcoming release of OSX 10.5 and new application updates, more 3D effects will become possible, requiring more and more graphics power from our Macs. With only an additional $249 for the ATI X1900 XT to pay, this graphics card should be the first choice for the professional video editor.

dvGarage Product - conduit

I'm a big fan of Nodal Compositing - it's building effects like a flowchart. Shake has it, but is very complex. Brand new from DVGarage - Conduit. Nodal Compositing in Motion. $199

dvGarage Product - conduit: "Conduit is a nodal compositor that actually sits inside of Motion 2. Nodal compositors provide a powerful flow-chart approach to compositing. Rather than thinking in layers, each node applies an operation. This approach is very popular in high-end facilities because it provides a very open ended way to create composites that are customized to each challenge"

Final Cut Studio: About external video-monitoring conflicts

Final Cut Studio: About external video-monitoring conflicts

Some of the applications included with Final Cut Studio are able to display output to an external video device. Viewing such output on a precisely calibrated monitor is the best way to accurately evaluate color and framing of material that is intended to be viewed on a television. Apple Qualified video interfaces are evaluated with each of the Final Cut Studio applications that can access them for output. Other applications, such as iMovie HD and Final Cut Express also allow external video monitoring."
