I did some poking around on Apple store.
First, there still is a 17" MBP. It's just bigger. Nothing really else great about it.
The graphics have been improved on all the pro models, the screen is only available in glossy and the battery life is now 5 hours. Did nobody mention that because they didn't count it as a feature...or they didn't want to draw attention to the poor battery life of the existing MBP?
I think the multi touch trackpad is neat - the only things I could think of for a four finger gesture were obscene. I then got to thinking that it'd be funny if it could sense a middle finger only trackpad gesture as a force quit.
I'm not sure how I feel about the 'clickpad.' I hate that feature in laptops now, so I'll be curious if it really works/feels great. Given apple's track record, it should...but I still don't love it.
Apple now has a $300 set of jumps from $999 to $2799.
- $999 MB white
- $1299 MB alum (actually slower than the $999 one, but better graphics)
- $1599 MB alum faster
- $1799 MB air
- $1999 MB Pro
- $2499 MB Pro (fast) or MB air (fast). One note, the MBP is only 1.53 ghz faster. $500 for a small bump
- $2799 for the MBP 17"
Wait. No firewire 400. I bet there's a ton to be made in FW hubs and FW 800 to 400 adapters now.
Last...There's a 2.8 Ghz Build to order option only. it's an extra $300. So, it's $800 to go from a 2.4 to a 2.8 processor.
