Selecting White vs Super-whiteSetting White levels This whole 'White' versus 'Super-white' issue surfaced when we started combining computer graphics with video. Normal standard definition (SD) video puts white at 100 IRE units in a YUV color space. PhotoShop, and other computer graphics programs, create graphics using a default RGB color space that puts white at 109% of 'broadcast white.' These excessive white levels are called, 'Super-whites.' This issue has been further complicated by DV footage (MiniDV, DVCAM, and DVCPRO) that uses Super-whites, while SD footage (Beta SX, SP, and DigiBeta) uses 'normal' whites, as do the rest of the broadcast and DVD industry. Why will this make your life simpler? Well, if you subscribe to our feed, you can quickly scan when there are updates. Safari 2.0 (part of Tiger) has this ability. You'd see a large RSS icon in the browser's info bar.

If you don't like Safari (or it's newsreader) there are a half a dozen other piece of software (some freeware, some shareware)

I personally have been using NetNewswire from the early days (and often it's considered the best OSX RSS software.) Why will this make your life more complicated? Because you can read more information faster than you ever have been able to before.

Problems with QT 7.0.1

OpenGL based QuickTime Player (OMG version 2.0 Test Available!!!) Posted July 31, 2005 17:23     Ugly things are happening in QT 7.0.1 for 4:2:2 to RGB encode/decode, depending on codec. For example, Motion JPEG will decode much dimmer than uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2. However, using a tool like QuickTime Player Pro that can do native 4:2:2, you can convert from one to the other without any color shift. RGB decode was identical in 6.5......Someone at Apple said this will be fixed, but I don't know when. In the mean time, I've had to move everything to uncompressed 4:2:2 for any cross-platform work from QuickTime sources. Thank goodness for gigabit and fast RAID - I'm working with a bunch of 35 GB files today, with source build on the Mac and processed on Win."
