Interesting conversation between the owner of this blog and Mike of HD for indies.
One note that is touched on..but I'm going to mention.
1) Shake projects can XML into motion if you rename the shake project .MOV
2) Motion and FCP are 8 bit apps. Any DI (digital Intermediary work) is damaged without good Log conversion. This is a Quicktime limitation.
3) As mentioned in the email, displays are all 8 bit.
What they're both lamenting is a real Color Correction workflow. Oh, FCP has a quick Color Corrector; it's adequate for 95% of the people, but it's not a full color correction interface.
There are two real alternatives in the FCP space. The first is Color Finesse. I've used it. The Problem? not RT. And Final Touch HD? I haven't seen it yet.
biki blog: the Future of Shake: "Firstly, from what I understand, Motion and FCP integrate closely, much like LiveType and FCP. Motion project files are treated like clips within FCP, and any changes made to the motion project are automatically reflected in FCP. Hopefully, FCP5 will see greater workgroup"
