On Sundays, I'm going to try to throw up some opinion here.
Not because I really want to write the content; but rather two things - first I want more people reading the site (if you like it, hate it, want to contribute - you're wanted)
Particularly, I'd like love other FCP UG posting information both about when their groups meet and items they find valuable.
One man, however can't do it all. So if you want to volunteer, go ahead and press the email Jeff link at the right - or click here.
Meanwhile, back to the state of Pro Apps.
Tomorrow, (or in about six or so hours) Apple will be taking the covers off the new iMac. Certainly it will be cool looking, we all love that icandy
But more important - it will be powerful (and hopefully not overpriced). The eMac will be dead. It fills a great market segment, but it's still the old iMac in a modified shell. Yes, I want cheap macs out there - I want it to be possible for some of our friends and family who just don't get it - to say, yeah, I see that a PC is a couple of hundred dollars (or your local currency here) cheaper, but look at all the stuff I get with a mac!
iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto, iTunes, and Garageband, oh my! Right there, those apps for a PC user is literally the difference in price.
But it's Pro apps you're coming here for. Have no misconceptions - Apple has a brilliant strategy. They want to move hardware. They're going to keep making iNsanely cool software that helps push the hardware. It's smart business. And Golly! Motion is such cool software. It Is Software That You Will Want To Have.
Someone is really thinking in the ProApps group - they're listening to the community, coming out with software that hits the sweet spot just so, but is also killer. Believe me, Motion is one of those killer video apps.
So, take your pick. Buy a Mac because it's really cool or that it really solves a problem for you. The production suite is perfectly priced for this. Your software out of date? Upgrading DVDSP or FCP and you get the rest. Each of these apps are stellar. And you know, they're only going to get better
Well, those are my thoughts for a Sunday night
